Ammonium Bisulfite (ABS)

Ammonium Bisulfite (ABS) is a strong oxygen scavenger and reducing agent.  Ammonium Bisulfite is sodium free and effective in removal of organic compounds from gas streams.

  • ABS reduces costs through higher actives per pounds vs comparable products reducing freight, handling and total cost of ownership
  • Easier to dose than SO2, lower corrosion potential than SO2, less pH impact to processes than SO2.
  • Uses include chrome reduction, chlorine reduction, peroxide reduction, silver halide reduction, bichromate reduction, and sulfonation agent.

Scrubbing Agent

Ammonium bisulfite can be used as a chemical scrubbing agent to remove organic compounds from gas streams. This process is known as "wet scrubbing" and is commonly used in industrial applications to control air pollution. In the scrubber, the gas stream is passed through a tower where ammonium bisulfite is sprayed in a counter-flow direction. The organic compounds in the gas stream react with the ammonium bisulfite to form a water-soluble product, which is then removed from the gas stream. The use of ammonium bisulfite in wet scrubbing is a cost-effective method for removing organic compounds from gas streams. It is a widely used process in various industries, including the oil and gas industry, petrochemical industry, and wastewater treatment facilities. The use of ammonium bisulfite in wet scrubbing is regulated by various state and federal agencies to ensure its safe use and disposal.

Water Treatment

Ammonium bisulfite is used in water treatment to remove chlorine and other oxidizing agents from water. It helps to neutralize the chlorine, which can be harmful to aquatic life and the environment.
